On line LED calculator

An important new tool has been added to the TSEU Group website. An online Business Case Calculator, available at www.tseu.net/led enables you to see the savings that your organisation could make through the introduction of 3G LED signals. The new technology, featured in this issue of Signal magazine, can reduce power consumption by up to 70%.

The TSEU LED Business Case Calculator is simple to use and has been developed in association with TSEU clients in local government. Local authorities are coming under increasing pressure to save money, deliver efficiencies and improve services. In this environment it is important to be able to present a Business Case to both senior officers and elected members for any major investment. Replacing all existing Halogen Signal Heads with TSEU 3G LEDs delivers on all the relevant criteria for local authority efficiencies as well as meeting broader environmental and safety objectives.

The TSEU 3G LED Signal Head delivers a long working life that avoids unnecessary replacement costs. As well as being backed by a 6-year warranty, the evidence suggests that the lamps will have a service life of between 10 and 12 years. TSEU 3G LED signals also deliver enhanced energy efficiency to meet both environmental and cost criteria. A 70% saving on energy usage is easily achievable. In addition, a reduced need for maintenance reduces labour costs and improves safety.

Using the Calculator

The Business Case Model enables a local authority to input basic data to identify the various costs savings that could be achieved and the payback period for the investment that is made. The data includes:
• Current cost of electricity
• Estimated increases in electricity costs
• Number of single aspect halogen lamps
• Number of wait indicators
• Number of box signs
• Annual contract price adjustments
• Current annual refurbishment spend
• Current annual traffic management spend
• Number of sites requiring lamp monitoring

Once this information has been entered, the calculator gives you figures for annual savings on materials and labour, energy savings and the payback period needed to cover the initial capital outlay to replace all Halogen Heads with LEDs. How you benefit
