Two software solutions from TSEU are helping to meet and beat the challenge of congestion in Britain’s towns and cities.
The ability to monitor and control traffic flows in a small town, across an arterial road network or even across an entire city is becoming increasingly important. TSEU's STM solution is one of the most sophisticated systems available for modelling traffic control systems. The intelligent solution enables the user to model different scenarios for a road system, including both peak and off-peak traffic loads, as well as the impact of special events – such as football matches – or even the addition of new infrastructure, such as a supermarket - on traffic.
Once modelled, the settings for traffic lights and other traffic control systems can be analysed and saved. These scenarios can then be implemented at any time. Even better, the effect of each model or plan can be analysed against what happens once the plan is put into operation and adjustments made, where necessary, to improve traffic flow and minimise congestion. The software can communicate with traffic control systems on the street via existing communications infrastructure.
TSEU’s Remote Monitoring solution is a proven system that enables users to gather data not only on the condition of street equipment, but the real-time flow of traffic at any location that is being monitored. Equipment monitoring means that any faults or damage to any equipment can be quickly identified, enabling rapid maintenance or repair work to be carried out. This, in itself, helps to minimise the risk of congestion caused by equipment failure or damage.
Monitoring traffic flow enables data to be collected that makes it easier to plan traffic control systems that reflect the day-to-day usage of any particular part of the road transport network. it also enables traffic managers to respond quickly to any sudden, unexpected or unusual rise in traffic.
