The Sentinel is TSEU’s all purpose traffic controller. The Sentinel is a powerful flexible tool that can be used well beyond standard traffic control and pedestrian crossing roles. It is available for operation at 230Vac 50Hz or 60Hz and also at a safe ELV voltage working with LED signals, a combination which is increasingly popular and has significant safety benefits.
The 6U rack mounted construction allows users to select the hardware required to deliver their particular control solution. This rack is housed in a choice of two cabinet sizes with space for field wiring terminations, power and telecoms interfaces, etc., or can be provided as a rack for retrofitting into an existing cabinet.
The controller is scaleable up to 32 phases (signal groups). Controllers can operate in a number of modes from fixed time, (FT) through vehicle actuated (VA), to cable-less linking (CLF). They may be placed under UTC control for co-ordinated network operation. Where bus/PSV or tram priority is important separate modes exist. Changes from one mode to another can be controlled by timetable or by external events. The controller also runs TRL’s MOVA® software as an integral facility. MOVA® is a powerful optimisation facility for junctions not running in a co-ordinated network. Unlike other controller manufacturers TSEU runs MOVA as an integral part of the controller software precluding the need for expensive add on units which increase cost and adversely affect reliability. It is a policy of TSEU to keep functions relating to traffic control within the controller, while other facilities are run on an intelligent out station, which fits alongside the controller in the rack.
All TSEU controllers have the facility for the creation of user specific functions, e.g. different lamp sequences, or basic traffic data collection. (Where advanced data collection is needed users are advised to consider the Remote Monitoring and STM packages in the software product area of our web site.)
The controller is supported by a configuration tool and by an emulator. The configurator creates the site specific data for each individual controller. The emulator allows the user to run the configuration on a PC and verify that is delivers the service required. The Emulator supports its own traffic queue simulator and interfaces to micro-simulation packages. These are also described in the software product area of our website.
